Victorian Landholders Get the Support to Rebuild Communities

Australia has faced one of the worst bushfire seasons in history. According to sources, these fires ravaged more than 25 million acres (10 million hectares), taking lives, destroying homes and impacting wildlife – leaving behind devastated families, communities and landscapes.

While the devastation in Australia has been unprecedented in scale, coverage and duration, in Victoria, the bushfires have caused tragic loss of life and physical damage, scarring our landscape and claiming at least 350 homes.

Victorian Land Registry Services (VLRS) is committed to state-wide support to assist bushfire-affected landowners during local reconstruction and recovery. In conjunction with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), VLRS is providing fire-affected communities access to the land titles register to reclaim essential land and property information destroyed by bushfire – free of charge.

These important documents can assist with insurance claims and development applications to council, as well as provide peace of mind regarding land ownership following the unprecedented bushfires.

VLRS Chief Executive Officer, Kevin O’Callaghan, said the response is part of our ongoing commitment to help fire-affected communities get the support they need to recover and rebuild.

“I urge fire-affected communities to reach out and get the support they need,” added Kevin.
