Victorian Land Registry Services (VLRS) has appointed respected Director Cheryl Batagol as its inaugural Chair.
The Victorian Government granted VLRS, which is owned by First State Super, the 40-year concession to run the commercial operation functions of Land Use Victoria in late 2018.
First State Super Head of Income and Real Assets, Damien Webb, said the Fund was delighted to have secured the services of such a respected Chair as Ms Batagol, to oversee the operations of VLRS.
“Cheryl brings a wealth of board and management experience to this role. She has had a long and distinguished career at a senior management and board level in the Victorian water and waste industry, most recently as Chair of the Environment Protection Authority Victoria and formerly as Chair of Melbourne Water,”
Mr Webb
“VLRS provides an essential service that touches the lives of nearly all Victorians in some way. It is critical that we continue to provide the level of service, innovation and support that the Victorian community needs and deserves.
“Over the past 10 months the VLRS team has worked hard to not only maintain the service that Victorians have enjoyed for so long but, develop new systems and processes to make interacting with us more efficient and easier. For example, in conjunction with the State and industry now over 90% of all registration transactions are now processed electronically.
“This is just the first step in our plans to continue to grow and develop the functions of the VLRS and we are delighted to have secured the services of such an experienced Chair in Cheryl Batagol to help lead this important work.”
Mr Webb
- Mr Webb said Ms Batagol would lead an experienced and accomplished Board committed to ensuring VLRS maintained its position as the trusted, single point of truth of property ownership, location and boundary data in the State.
- VLRS Chief Executive Kevin O’Callaghan agreed and said he looked forward to working with Ms Batagol and her fellow directors as the organisation began an exciting new phase of its history.

“Our core objective is to support confidence in the integrity and proper functioning of the Victorian property market through timely error-free processing, aided by highly available and secure systems. The extensive knowledge and industry experience of all Board members will help contribute to the success of our organisation,” Mr O’Callaghan said.
